Description

Sodium carbonate, also known as heavy/dense soda ash or heavy sodium carbonate, is an important industrial chemical, used primarily in glass production, where it acts as a flux, lowering the melting point of the glass mixture. It is also used in the chemical industry for the production of various chemicals, in wastewater treatment plants for pH regulation, and in the production of detergents and cleaning agents. Heavy sodium carbonate is characterized by higher density and lower porosity compared to the light version, which makes it preferable for applications requiring faster dissolution and greater process efficiency. It takes the form of odorless white powder or granules and has a melting point of about 851 °C and a relative density of 2.54 g/cm³. It is a substance with a wide range of industrial applications, but requires appropriate handling precautions to avoid inhalation of dust and contact with eyes or skin.
